Malaysia gets the updated 2022 BMW M5 and M5 Competition

KUALA LUMPUR: On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, BMW M treated us with 5 new M models - the i4 M50, new M3 Competition, new M4 Competition, new M5 and M5 Competition. We have already discussed the meanest version of the electric Gran Coupe, and now it’s time to shed light on the updated M5 models. 

Starting with the price, the all-new 2022 BMW M5 retails for RM 998,800, while at the same time, you can buy the new M5 Competition for RM 1,188,800. It is important to note that these hefty price tags include the sales and service tax. Moving on to the changes.

The styling updates introduced with the regular 5 Series in May have now made their way to the M5 duo. These comprise a new kidney grille, restyled M-specific bumpers and sleeker headlights. The latter is now paired with LaserLight technology. Towards the rear, we can see a new 3D gloss-black insert surrounding the diffuser and new 3D tail lights. And yeah, not to forget the special BMW M 50 Years emblems commemorating the brand’s half centenary.

As for colour options, both variants are available in Black Sapphire, M Marina Bay Blue, Sophisto Grey, Sanremo Green, and Skyscraper Grey. However, the Aventurine Red is exclusively offered with the M5 Competition.

Hop inside these new performance sedans, and you will be greeted by a bigger 12.3-inch infotainment unit paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display.

Another big change can be seen on the centre console, where now lies just two buttons - Setup and M Mode to control the suspension, powertrain and steering adjustments. To be specific, the Setup button offers you a dedicated menu for handling these controls while the M button is there to change drive modes. 

The interior is decked up with Merino leather upholstery, which can be opted either in Silverstone, Aragon Brown, or Black colours.

The 2022 BMW M5 and M5 Competition engine specs remain the same as before.
