Malaysia gets the all-new 2023 BMW M2 coupe

KUALA LUMPUR: At the M4NTAP Festival held at Sepang International Circuit this weekend, BMW Malaysia introduced the 2023 BMW M2 alongside the new iX M60. Touted as the boldest two-door compact coupé ever built in its class, the new M2 is available in two variants here - Standard and Pro Package, priced as follows -

Mechanicals

Both trims are powered by the identical powertrain configuration. That’s a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine dishing out 460 PS of maximum power and 550 Nm of peak torque. 

The engine comes mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, allowing the German coupe to run from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds only and clock a top speed of 250 kmph. With the optional M Driver’s Package, the M2’s top speed can go up to 285 kmph.

The new BMW M2 also benefits from a newly designed chassis with new aluminium double-joint spring strut front axle and wishbone. Also part of the kit is an improved five-link rear suspension, superior steering precision, Active M Differential, six-piston fixed-calliper brakes at the front, Adaptive M Suspension, and M Drive Professional system.

Against the measuring tape, the all-new 2023 BMW M2 measures as follows -

Exterior 

Design-wise, the car boasts a new unframed kidney grille featuring horizontal slats. It is complemented by a striking apron, square-shaped air intakes, Adaptive LED headlights with High-beam Assistant, and aluminium front wings. The bonnet also gets a revamp and now houses a pronounced power dome.

On the sides, we can see widened side skirts, flared wheel arches, and 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Double-spoke style M light alloy wheels and blue brake callipers as standard. The Pro Package comes with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Double-spoke style M light alloy wheels in 930 M Black and Red High-gloss M Compound Brakes. The rear features a spoiler lip, a rear diffuser and hallmark M twin tailpipes.

The new BMW M2 also gets the M High-gloss Shadowline trim as standard fitment, with M Carbon Roof and M Lights Shadowline exclusively available for the Pro Package.

Colour options include - Zandvoort Blue, Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey, Black Sapphire and Toronto Red.

Safety

The Driving Assistant pack of the new BMW M2 comprises - Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Rear Collision Prevention, and Speed Limit Info with manual Speed Limit Assistant. 

Parts of the Parking Assistant suite are - Park Assist function, Reversing Assistant, Lateral Parking Aid, Active Park Distance Control, Reversing Assist Camera, and Cruise Control with Braking Function.
