Limited-run Toyota Fortuner commander arrives in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The highly-popular Toyota Fortuner SUV received a special variant in the Thai market dubbed as the ‘Commander’. Based on the standard trim, this new variant is a limited production model with only 1000 units available in the Land of Smiles.

While the Fortuner Commander underpins the standard model, Toyota has kitted it with all tech goodies and aesthetic elements available on the premium Legender.

Talking about the latter first, the SUV gets sporty black finishing on the front grille, bumpers, and skid plates. There is also a black applique on the back connecting the tail lights along with a Commander script confirming the identity of the new trim. The SUV rolls on larger 20-inch dual-tone alloys as compared to the standard’s 18-inch wheels.

As far as the exterior colour options are concerned, Thai customers can get the Fortuner Commander either in White/Black or Red/Black dual-tone shades.

Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a black leather interior complemented by deep red accents. It is a fully-loaded model with some extra features over the regular Fortuner including a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitor, and a rear cross-traffic alert.

Powering the new Fortuner Commander is a 2.4-litre diesel mill that generates a maximum power output of 150 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automaker does not offer the special variant in all-wheel drive or a larger 2.8-litre diesel engine option. 

With this limited-edition Fortuner, the customers also get a tweaked suspension system offering an improved ride quality over the standard model.
