Lexus UX teased on Facebook, bookings now open
KUALA LUMPUR: Lexus Malaysia has dropped a teaser on its official Facebook page showing the glimpse of the new UX, with caption reading as “something exciting is coming your way”. The company has also announced that it has started accepting orders.
Based on the Global Architecture-Compact platform, which is similar to the Toyota New Global Architecture used for the C-HR, the Lexus UX is shorter than the NX by 144 sporting a wheelbase of 2,639 mm, which is only 21 mm less than its bigger sibling.
The UX will be available in three variants, all three powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a max power of 171 PS and a peak torque of 205 Nm, mated to a 10-speed Direct Shift CVT. It is capable of clocking a top speed of 190 Kmph and sprint from zero to 100 kmph in just 9.2 seconds.
On the outside, the Urban UX will feature LED projector headlamps with DRLs, signature Lexus spindle grille, squared-off wheel arches, full-width LED taillights and a low-slung roofline. Additionally, you’d see an integrated rear spoiler, black cladding for extra protection and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, it gets a 7-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch centrally-positioned infotainment system with Remote Touch interface, six speakers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Other notable features include NuLuxe leather upholstery and 8-way powered front seats. There are three drive modes, including Normal, Sport, and Eco.
The Luxury variant, on the other hand, gets 18-inch alloys, powered tailgate with sensors and automatic wipers on the outside. Its inside, however, gets wireless charging, electric steering wheel adjustment, a bigger 10.3-inch infotainment system with a total of eight speakers and memory function. Further, it gets paper grain and metallic trim along with front ventilated powered seats.
The range-topping F Sport variant gets leather and metallic trim, F Sport 18-inch wheels, F Sport front grille, paddle shifters, a heads-up display, F Sport seats, aluminium pedals and an 8-inch instrument cluster, along with two additional drive modes, Sport+ and Custom.
For exterior finishes, the customers get to choose from nine colours, namely, Madder Red, Celestial Blue, Blazing Carnelian, Terrane Khaki, Platinum Silver Metallic, Sonic Quartz, Amber Crystal Shine, Graphite Black Glass Flake, and Sonic Titanium. The range-topping variant, however, gets only eight options - no Amber Cyrstal Shine. Also, instead of Platinum Silver Metallic and Sonic Quartz, it gets Heat Blue Contrast Layering and White Nova Glass Flake.
Aside from standard safety features like ABS with EBD, active cornering assist, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, brake assist, traction control, VSC and eight airbags, it gets advanced safety suite called the Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+). The LSS+ comes with lane departure alert, adaptive high-beal system, dynamic radar cruise control, front pre-collision system and lane tracing assist. In addition to these, there are certain features that are exclusively on offer with Luxury and F Sport variants. They are panoramic view monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring system.
Positioned below the NX in the automaker’s lineup, the Lexus UX is a rival to Mercedes-Benz GLA and the BMW X1. The pricing starts from RM 243,888 (OTR without insurance) and it comes with a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
Variant-wise pricing is as follows:
- Lexus UX Urban: RM 243,888 (OTR without insurance)
- Lexus UX Luxury: RM 283,888 (OTR without insurance)
- Lexus UX F Sport: RM 299,888 (OTR without insurance)
