This initiative is part of a broader strategy between Leader Energy and BMW Group Malaysia, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering EV charging infrastructure across Malaysia. Leader Energy has now incorporated several BMW i models, including the BMW i4 eDrive35, BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport, and BMW iX xDrive50, into its fleet. This move highlights the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing responsible technology within its operations.

Leader Energy plans to continue expanding its EV fleet over the next year, further embedding sustainability into its corporate ethos.

Commenting on the partnership, Sashi Ambihaipahan, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at BMW Group Malaysia, lauded Leader Energy’s forward-thinking approach. “Our partner, Leader Energy has demonstrated exemplary responsibility by taking the lead in renewable energy solutions and transitioning to electric vehicles. As the leading provider of premium electrified vehicles, BMW Group Malaysia is pleased to support this transformative step through our state-of-the-art BMW i models. It is our hope that this initiative becomes a catalyst for other prominent and like-minded organisations to embrace Clean Mobility practices and recognise the long-term benefits of transitioning to electric vehicles, incorporating more responsible technology in their overall business operations.”

Leader Energy, a key player in the independent power production sector, is also collaborating with BMW Group Malaysia on the development of fast-charging stations along the North-South Highway, contributing to the broader adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia.

Leader Energy also has projects across seven Asian countries, where they have also recently signed a significant agreement on July 8th, marking its second collaboration with HSBC in Vietnam. The seven-year loan, provided solely by HSBC, will be used to refinance the Vinh Hao 6 (VH6) solar power plant, a 50MW facility located in Binh Thuan province. VH6, which has been fully owned by Leader Energy since last year, generates 83,000MWh annually and offsets over 75,130 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

This deal underscores Leader Energy's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio in Vietnam, where it now holds more than 500MW of renewable assets. The agreement also aligns with Vietnam’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, showcasing the country’s potential in the renewable energy sector. Jenny Ng, Group CFO of Leader Energy, highlighted the favorable refinancing terms secured through HSBC, reaffirming the company’s role in supporting Vietnam's energy transition.
