Lamborghini to end production of pure combustion cars in 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: Lamborghini ended 2021 with an all-time high record of delivering 8,405 cars worldwide and now for 2022, it is buckled up with so many surprises. The Italian marque will unveil four new models this year, of which one would be its last pure combustion engine-powered car.

Lamborghini’s first PHEV model will roll out in 2023.According to a report by Automotive News Europe, Lamborghini bids farewell to the production of internal combustion engines with the last model in 2022 as it moves ahead on its way to electrify the entire range by 2024.
“It will be the last time that we only offer combustion engines," said Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

Further, the company confirms that during the product electrification process, it is constantly focussed on figuring out those technologies that guarantee top performance and driving dynamics. It will spend more than €1.5 billion (RM 7.12 billion) over the course of four years for the transition to plug-in hybrids. The brand’s first PHEV car will roll out in 2023, however, for the pure-electric vehicles, Lamborghini has set a target of 2025.
“We are stronger than ever as we prepare to embark on a period of profound transformation and move towards an even more sustainable future. In 2022 we’ll be doing our utmost to consolidate the current performance and get ready for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023 onwards,” said Winkelmann.
Recently, the company also announced an organizational change in its R&D Department. Rouven Mohr is appointed as the Chief Technical Officer of Lamborghini who was the Head of Verification / Validation Whole Vehicle at AUDI AG in Germany earlier.
