KTMB suspends interstate, intercity train services amid coronavirus outbreak
KUALA LUMPUR: To curb the spread of the coronavirus disease outbreak, the primary rail operator of Peninsular, Malaysia, KTMB has decided to halt interstate and city train services. According to a statement issued yesterday, the suspension of the services starts today until the end of the MCO (Movement Control Order) on March 31.
As per the KTM CEO Datuk Kamarulzaman Zainal, “Only two ETS services and two KTM Antarabandar services will operate daily. compared to eight before this. Ekspres Rakyat Timuran, Ekspres Selatan and Shuttle Tebrau services will be fully stopped for the period.”
The Klang Valley and northern region services of KTM Komuter have reducted to 49 services per day. Also, the frequency of Skypark Link that joins the KL Sentral and the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport has reduced to four from eight.
Though the services have suspended to control the coronavirus impact, Kamarulzaman said that several other trains would be continued to serve the special needs arising at this crucial time. It includes transportation of medical and food supplies as well as the movement of staff of various critical services involved in the enforcement of the MCO.
He also added that the passengers who wish to make amendments or cancel their tickets during the duration of the order should approach nearby stations. The refund will be made as per the existing guidelines i.e., 14 days after the cancellation date.
