Jaecoo J7 PHEV reaches Malaysian showrooms; customer deliveries to begin soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaecoo expanded its lineup in Malaysia with the launch of the J7 PHEV in late February. Now, after almost three weeks, the automaker has begun deliveries of this plug-in hybrid SUV to dealerships nationwide. The customer deliveries are on track for Q1 2025.

    Price 

    Jaecoo Malaysia offers the J7 PHEV in a sole local-assembled variant, priced at RM 158,800. Included in the price is a 7-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty for the battery, motor and motor controller unit. 

    Powertrain and performance

    The plug-in hybrid variant of the J7 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The setup delivers a total output of 347 PS and 525 Nm, making it one of the most powerful PHEVs in its price segment.

    The SUV offers a 1,200 km WLTP-certified range on a single tank and charge, with a fuel efficiency estimated at 4.77 litres per 100 km on paper. However, during the real-world endurance tests, it ran for 1,427.5 km on a single tank and full charge and delivered an impressive fuel efficiency of 3.5 litres per 100 km.

    These numbers make the Jaecoo J7 an economical choice for city and long-distance drivers.

    Design and features

    The PHEV trim boasts a few unique exterior elements that set it apart from the ICE-powered J7. These include -  an exclusive two-tone Olive Grey body colour, 19-inch Aero Rims, aerodynamic side mirrors and a Cinema Tonneau Cover. Inside, the central console looks a bit different as the gear shifter has been moved to the steering column.
