Hyundai to reveal the world's first Active Noise Control soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has announced that it is working on making the world's first Road Noise Active Noise Control (RANC) system. The new technology helps to reduce the road noise up to 3 dB, which makes its interior noise cancellation system best in the industry.
According to Hyundai, Road Noise Active Noise Control system uses components like controllers, microphones, and software, which help to reduce the road and engine noise. To make it more precise, it works like the active noise-cancelling headphones, in which the music is not affected by any nearby noise. In the car's perspective, the mic's pickup a sound; then, the software starts to analyse it, and than inverse waves are spit out by the speaker. The whole process helps the system to cancel the noise.
Hyundai also mentions that the other systems take 0.009 seconds to make the cancellation done, while the new RANC gets it done in just 0.002 seconds. Also, it explains, "The microphone constantly monitors the road noise cancellation status and sends the information to the DSP. RANC can conduct accurate noise analysis and rapid computation to combat road noise for the driver's seat, the passenger seat, and rear seats separately."
A research fellow from NVH Research Lab, Gangdeok Lee, said, "RANC is a remarkable technology which takes existing NVH technology to the next level. We will continue to take the leading position of NVH technology and deliver the highest level of quietness to customers."
Hyundai has realised that the RANC system works pretty well in the electric vehicles' cabin, which does not have combustion engines beneath. This generally resists road noise more than the engine noise. If all goes well, we might see the new RANC system making its debut in one of the upcoming Genesis models.
