Hyundai showcases Ioniq 5 N performance EV in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 N made its ASEAN debut in Thailand back in April. Now, after nearly five months, the high-performance variant of the Ioniq 5 is finally in front of us thanks to Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N runs from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 260 kmph.The official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in Malaysia previewed the Ioniq 5 N at the Sime Darby Motors Automania event today, where we also witnessed the launch of the all-new Santa Fe facelift. Although there is no hint on Ioniq 5 N pricing yet, the preview suggests that a launch could be imminent.
So, what does the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N bring to the table?
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first high-performance of the carmaker’s N performance division, which holds the title of 2024 World Performance Car of the Year. Compared to the standard Ioniq 5, It comes with sportier styling, upgraded mechanicals, and many exclusive bits, offering a thrilling driving experience to performance lovers.
The Ioniq 5 N is powered by a dual motor AWD setup tuned to generate a maximum power of 609 PS and a peak torque of 740 Nm. The output figures can go up to 650 PS and 770 Nm with the help of the N Grin Boost mode, which lasts for 10 seconds. It allows the performance EV to complete the century sprint in mere 3.4 seconds and clock an electronically limited speed of 260 kmph.
Feeding the motors is an 84-kWh battery pack that provides a driving range of up to 448 km (on the WLTP cycle). As for charging, it gets 10 to 80% SoC in just 18 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.
The automaker has added an N Battery Pre-conditioning feature to boost battery performance, offering Drag and Track modes. N Race mode also includes Endurance and Sprint options. The software-enhanced driving fun bits include N Pedal, N Drift Optimizer, N e-shift, and N Active Sound + systems.
Further adding to the performance is a reinforced chassis with 42 additional welding points, a completely revised suspension setup, and an updated regenerative braking system. The EV is equipped with new aero bits and WRC-inspired integrated drive axles at both ends. The lightweight braking setup comprises a four-piston, 400 mm front disc, and a one-piston, 360 mm rear disc.
In terms of visual differences, the Ioniq 5 N comes with a lower bumper lip spoiler, active air flaps, a black trim on the bumper, red accents, and a rear diffuser. It rolls on 21-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped with Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The cabin is equipped with a redesigned central console, N-specific steering wheel, and reinforced seat bolsters on the bucket seats.
