Hyundai N Vision 74 concept is a hydrogen-powered sports car
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has introduced its hydrogen-powered sports car the N Vision 74 concept which pays homage to the Giorgetto Giugiaro designed, 1974 Hyundai Pony.
The concept was showcased at the Busan Motor Show 2022, in Korea and celebrates the automaker’s design history and futuristic vision.
Hyundai’s latest concept explores hydrogen fuel cell technology along with highlighting the brand’s lesser known parts of history. Here are its key highlights -
- As per Hyundai’s design boss SangYup Lee, the concept is a fortuitous coming together of projects. The company’s engineering wanted to test a high-performance hydrogen powertrain for which they needed an attention-grabbing body to cloth the prototype. Thus creating the perfect opportunity to pay homage to the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe
- Powering it are two rear-mounted e-motors that generate over 679 hp of power. Feeding these motors is a 62.4 kWh battery that can be charged by a 95kW hydrogen fuel cell
- The battery gets quickly charged like a BEV and the hydrogen tank get filled in 5 minutes
- The N Vision 74 concept yields a range of more than 595 km
- Active torque-vectoring is possible with two motors and the separate coolant channel for the battery, motors, and full cell keep the mechanicals cool
On the design front, Hyundai’s latest concept acts as a bridge between the current and future Ioniq EVs. How? The Ioniq 5 is inspired by the standard 5-door Pony while the N Vision concept takes it into a more radical territory.
Will the Hyundai Vision 74 concept ever enter production? We aren’t sure but industry experts believe that it can come as a small special-series production model.
