Hyundai Kona EV breaks Guinness World Record

Hyundai Kona EV breaks Guinness World Record

KUALA LUMPUR: The Korean auto conglomerate, with its first electric model, enters the Guinness Book of world records when the Hyundai Kona EV broke the world record for “Highest Altitude Achieved in an Electric Car”. The made-in-India electric car travelled past the previous record, set by Nio ES8, of 5,715.28 metres to cement its place at the top of the table with 5,731 metres.

The feat was achieved in an expedition named “Emission Impossible” where the Kona Electric mapped never-reached-before altitude at the Sawula Pass in Tibet. It was driven through the most difficult driving conditions, even for the cars powered by internal combustion engines. The car went through situations like continuous snowfall, icy tarmacs and low temperatures. On the entire route, the car was charged via its portable charger as claimed by Hyundai, to show how powerful and robust are its electrical systems.

The CEO and managing director of Hyundai Motor India, S S Kim said, “Kona Electric has brought an Electric Revolution by demolishing various myths about electric vehicles and is a true expression of Hyundai’s spirit of staying ahead of the curve. Under the Emission Impossible Mission, Kona Electric has proved its mettle in the world’s toughest terrains without compromising its performance.”

No modifications were done to the already-on-sale Kona for the expedition. It performed brilliantly under tough driving conditions primarily due to the reason that the power is supplied through a chemical reaction inside the battery.

The Kona Electric will be made available in Malaysia under a leasing programme from Cohesive Mobility Solution (COMOS), at an estimated leasing price of RM 4,900 per month and a tenure period of 60 months for the High Spec model (64 kWh battery) with 204 PS of power and 395 Nm of torque and a travel range of 482 Km.

While for the Standard model (39.2 kWh), with 136 PS and 395 Nm and a travel range of 312 Km, the price is estimated at RM 4,300 per month for 60 months.
