Hyundai IONIQ to be Introduced in Three Versions

Kuala Lumpur: Hyundai is set to reveal three versions of it's all-new IONIQ at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2016. This lineup would include IONIQ Hybrid, IONIQ Electric and IONIQ Plug-in. The official pictures and technical specs of this car were revealed for the first time in January 2016 and now the time has come when it would get launched. In the Hybrid battlefield, this car would straightly go against Toyota Prius hybrid. Moreover, it is also being compared with the Nissan Leaf and 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. But what sets it apart is that it would be the first model to be offered in three different electrified powertrains.

Firstly, talking about IONIQ Electric, it would be powered by a 28 kWh lithium-ion-polymer battery which delivers a maximum power of 120 PS along with a peak torque of 295 Nm. With one charge, this battery can run over 250 km along with a top speed of 165 kmph. Further, IONIQ Hybrid derives its power from a combination of two sources. The first one being a 1.6-litre GDI engine which churns out a maximum power of 141 PS along with a peak torque of 265 Nm. It can attain a top speed of 185 kmph while the CO2 emissions of this car comes to 79 g/km. Further, the second source for hybrid version is a 32 kW electric motor which is powered by a lithium-ion-polymer battery. It is capable of delivering a maximum power of 43.5 PS along with a peak torque of 170 Nm. Lastly, the IONIQ plug-in features a new Kappa 1.6-litre GDI 4-cylinder, direct injection petrol engine which churns out a maximum power of 105 PS along with a peak torque of 147 Nm. Further, it is combined with an electric motor which is powered by a 8.9 kWh lithium-ion-battery and provides a driving range of 50 km. Further, it is mated with a six-speed double clutch transmission.

Towards the exterior, it features an aerodynamic body that is designed with soft lines and surfaces. For a drastic weight reduction, Hyundai has used high-strength steel for its structure and aluminium for non-structural panels. Moving inside, you will notice a lot of copper coloured accents. Further, one can also notice a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster which displays all the necessary information to the driver. For better connectivity, many features have been provided like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Tom Tom live services. Moreover, this trio is also assisted with many safety features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Smart Cruise Control.

For further information, you would have to wait until 1st March 2016, when it would be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
