Hyundai Ioniq 6 teased, here’s what we expect from the upcoming Korean EV
KUALA LUMPUR: After enjoying the global success of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai now moves ahead with the plan for revealing the Ioniq 6. It recently started the teaser campaigning of the upcoming electric car with a short video clip showcasing a “simple yet sensuous” design that will be the silhouette inspiration for the EV.

Hyundai is likely to unveil the Ioniq 6 electric sedan later this year.Hyundai called the Ioniq 6 an electrified streamliner in the teaser. The term ‘streamliner’ refers to a vehicle whose design is streamlined so that it easily cuts through the air. So, as per that, the Ioniq 6 will feature a streamlined shape.
While the teaser did not reveal much, here’s what we expect from the upcoming Ioniq 6 -
- As the upcoming Korean EV is based on the Prophecy concept (pictured above) that Hyundai showcased back in 2020, it is expected to have a sporty silhouette with a minimalistic facade.
- The camouflaged spy shots confirm that the Ioniq 6 will carry over the concept’s proportions.
- The fluid design of the car will offer excellent aerodynamics in line with the propeller-like alloys allowing it to flow down the side of the body.
- Inside, it might get a two-tone interior with a floating central console, spacious rear seats, a digital instrument cluster, an augmented reality head-up display, and a wide infotainment system.
- Under the metal skin, the electric vehicle will have the same E-GMP platform on which the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are also based.
- It is also expected to use the same battery and powertrain components as the ‘5’ as well. This includes a dual-motor AWD or a single-motor RWD setup paired with a 77.4kWh battery pack.
- Hyundai may also roll out an N Performance version of the EV with the specifications, similar to the Kia EV6 GT.
- As for the cruising distance, the EV will likely run for over 500 km on a single charge.
- Once launched, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 will rival the likes of the BMW i4, Tesla Model 3, and the upcoming sedan iteration of the Mercedes EQC.
Expected launch
Hyundai is likely to unveil the Ioniq 6 later this year with an estimated price tag of around $42,000 (approximately equal to RM 185,643).
