Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV coming to Malaysia; teaser campaign begins

KUALA LUMPUR: Just after launching the Ioniq 6 in the Philippines, Hyundai has geared up for the launch of the electric sedan in Malaysia. The local distribution arm of Hyundai cars, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), has started teasing the EV on its social media handle. 

The automaker highlighted the Ioniq 6 aerodynamic quotient in the first teaser and touted it as one of the world’s most aerodynamic production cars. The EV has an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.21Cd. For the sake of comparison, the Model 3 has a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS has 0.20Cd. 

Another teaser reveals the EV’s range with a claim of driving from Taiping to Johar Bahru without using a single drop of fuel.

No more details about the upcoming Ioniq 6 can be derived from the teaser. However, we can refer to the global model to know what the EV brings to the table -

• The EV is based on the E-GMP platform and measures 4,855 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height. The wheelbase is measured at 2,950 mm 
• It is offered in two battery packs - 53.0-kWh and 77.4-kWh units; the latter can let the EV run for 614 km on a single charge
• The drivetrain options include - a single electric motor delivering 228 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque and a dual-motor setup with 320 PS and 605 Nm of torque

• With an 800-volt electrical architecture, the EV supports 400-volt charging. The 350 kW DC can juice up 10-80% battery in just 18 minutes
• Equipment comprises - all-around Parametric Pixel lights, 20-inch matte black wheels, 12.3-inch infotainment system supporting over-the-air software updates, 12.3-inch digital cluster, head-up display, dual-zone automatic climate control panel, wireless charging pad, 64-colour ambient lighting, Bose sound system with eight speakers and an advanced navigation system, and leather upholstery

• The EV also comes kitted with the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS pack that combines advanced systems like smart cruise control, highway driving assist 2, forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear-cross traffic collision avoidance, parking distance warning, and more
