Hyundai Ioniq 6 beats the Ioniq 5 with a driving range of 610 km

KUALA LUMPUR: While Hyundai unveiled the design and features of its new electrified streamliner, the Ioniq 6, last month, it has now uncovered the stuff lying under the EV’s sleek exterior. Although we still don’t know the Hyundai Ioniq 6 price yet, we do know that the deliveries of the electric car will first commence in South Korea, followed by selected European markets later this year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How far can the Ioniq 6 travel on a single charge?

When equipped with the 77.4-kWh battery and single motor, the Ioniq 6 can travel for 610 km on a single charge.
  • When will the Hyundai Ioniq 6 launch?

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 will launch in South Korea first, followed by selected European markets later this year.
  • Let’s know the Hyundai Ioniq 6 drivetrain specs in detail -

With the Electric Global Modular Platform as the base, the Ioniq 6 comes in two battery sizes - 53.0 and 77.4 kilowatt-hours. These are mated to a rear-wheel drive and a single motor as standard along with a dual-motor all-wheel drive as an optional setup. While we have no info on the single motor output generation capability, we do know the dual-motor setup is good for making 320 hp of maximum power and 605 Nm of peak torque. This exactly matches the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 specs.

In terms of performance, the dual-motor version can run from zero to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds, which is also identical to the Ioniq 5 AWD. There will be several drive modes on offer, including a customisable ‘My Mode’ to choose various vehicle settings.

Speaking of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 range, the EV can run for 610 km (on the WLTP cycle) when equipped with the 77.4-kWh battery and single motor. This means it offers an additional 100 km driving range compared to the brand’s first Ioniq family member.

As for the smaller battery pack paired with 18-inch wheels, it is said that the combination makes the Ioniq 6 one of the most energy-efficient vehicles in the world. It will consume less than 14 kWh per 100 kilometres.

When it comes to the Ioniq 6 charging, Hyundai claims the owners will need not to wait long if using a superfast charger. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

One of the other big talking points of the EV is its ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.21 which made it the most aerodynamic car the automaker has ever made.

Impressive? Isn’t it? Tell us what you think of the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the comments.
