The claiming of the top honour in the UK Car of the Year Awards came after the IONIQ 5 was also awarded the Best Family Car category where it was praised for making “going electric easy” and being “innovative, desirable, practical, and brilliantly designed to make full use of its electric-only platform.”
In Malaysia, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered in three different variants - Lite, Plus, and Max – which are priced at RM199,888, RM229,888, and RM259,888 respectively.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is fully exempted from import and excise duties, sales tax as well as road tax as announced by the Malaysian government under Budget 2022.
Included in the price is a 2-year or 50,000 km manufacturer’s warranty for the car, and an 8-year/160,000 km for the battery.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 Lite and Plus trims are rear-wheel drive models. These are equipped with a single electric motor and a 58 kWh battery pack.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 Max, on the other hand, comes with all-wheel drive setup; two electric motors one on each axle, and a 72.6 kWh battery. All variants are mated to a single-speed transmission, with four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow.
The Hyundai new EV underpins the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and supports both 400-V and 800-V charging infrastructures. It takes 6.1 hours to charge when using a standard 11 kW home AC charger.
With the help of a quicker 350 kW DC charger, you can charge it 0 to 80% only in 18 minutes. The 50-kW DC charger takes 47 minutes to accomplish the same task.
Coming back to the UK Car of the Year awards, the Hyundai i20N was also recognized besides the IONIQ 5, beating a host of established sports cars to lift the Best Performance Car title.
The hot hatch can dispatch 0-100 km/h in only 6.2 seconds and comes fitted with an efficient 204 PS 1.6 T-GDi petrol engine, and the judges were suitably impressed, hailing it as “quite the performer at an affordable price."
