Hyundai INSTER EV teased; global debut later this month

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai is set to introduce an all-new A-segment sub-compact EV, called the “INSTER” at the Busan International Mobility Show later this month. The automaker has just released the first official teaser images of the upcoming EV, giving enthusiasts a glimpse into its futuristic design and features.

“The INSTER will set new standards in terms of driving range, technology, and safety features, redefining what buyers can expect from a vehicle in this class,” claims Hyundai. The word "INSTER” is derived from "intimate" and "innovative." 

Hyundai further confirmed that the upcoming EV is an evolved version of the petrol-powered Korea-only Casper SUV, introduced in 2021. Notably, the INSTER will be sold as the Casper Electric in Korea.

The Casper is 3,595 mm long, 1,595 mm wide, and 1,575 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2400 mm, which makes it almost similar to the Kia Picanto. It is offered in two petrol engine choices - a 75-hp 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated mill and a 99-hp 1.0-litre turbocharged mill, mated to either a four-speed torque converter AT or a five-speed MT.

Coming back to the EV, the teaser images reveal some design highlights of the Hyundai INSTER, including the signature LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and tail lights. Unfortunately, the automaker did not provide any interior shots.

In terms of technical specifications, Hyundai did not provide any detailed info and just disclosed its projected maximum range. The EV will offer a WLTP-claimed driving range of 355 km on a single charge.
