Hyundai Europe lineup to get a new SUV, the Bayon
KUALA LUMPUR: Joining the likes of Kona, NEXO, Tucson, and Santa Fe, the Bayon becomes the latest member in the Hyundai Europe SUV lineup. It will go on sale in the continent in the first half of 2021 and will act as an important model in the company's range of sport utility vehicles.
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Hyundai VP Marketing & Product on this new addition said, "Hyundai is strongly established in the European SUV market already, in terms of our model range as well as our sales success. By launching a new, additional B-segment model as the entry point into our SUV line-up, we see a great opportunity to cover European customers’ demand even better and to increase our offering in a highly popular segment."
The automaker has not revealed any technical information about the new SUV. However, it does tell us the story behind the car's name. Inspired by the southwest city of France, Bayonne, the Bayon is primarily a European product, therefore a regional name. Bayonne is situated between the Pyrenees mountains and the Atlantic coast and is a great place for adventure lovers with activities like hiking and sailing on offer. Thus, both the car and the city imbibe the same lifestyle characteristic - active and adventurous.
Over the past few years, Hyundai has taken inspiration from places around the world and in the process came up with some of the best-known SUV nameplates. Included in the list is the Tucson SUV named after a city in the state of Arizona, Santa Fe inspired from a New Mexico city, and the latest being the Kona that is derived from Big Island of Hawaii district Kona. How can we forget the NEXO fuel-cell EV - whose name is derived from Bornholm island largest town, the Nexø.
Aside from the car's name, Hyundai Europe announcement was supported by a teaser image showing off the car's tail light and side bodywork.
Hyundai will be releasing more details about the upcoming B-segment SUV soon. So, stay tuned with Zigwheels Malaysia for the latest update.
