Hyundai breaks ground of its first oversea’s fuel cell system facility
KUALA LUMPUR: It’s a big day for Hyundai Motor Group, as the automaker held a virtual groundbreaking ceremony of its first fuel cell system plant outside Korea, HTWO Guangzhou. This new facility would help Hyundai in its global hydrogen leadership goal and will also support its push into China’s fast-growing hydrogen industry.
Part of this one-of-a-kind virtual groundbreaking ceremony were several crucial names like Li Xi, Secretary of Guangdong Province, Ma Xing Rui, Governor of Guangdong Province - they joined the ceremony from Guangzhou Yuexiu International Congress Center, China. Joining via Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang located in Korea were Euisun Chung (Hyundai Motor Group Chairman) and Saehoon Kim (Hyundai Head of Fuel Cell Centre & Executive Vice President).
Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman said, “The establishment of HTWO Guangzhou marks an important starting point for Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated fuel cell system brand HTWO.” He further added, “Hyundai Motor Group will actively lead clean mobility innovations using its strategic partnerships, world-class technology, hydrogen business capabilities, and related expertise.”
HTWO Guangzhou fuel cell plant details -
- HTWO stands for 'H2', the hydrogen molecule, it also representing Hydronden & Humanity - the two pillars of the Group's fuel cell business
- It will build in the Guangzhou development district of Guangdong Province, China
- The plant will be completed in the second half of 2022
- It will be built on a 207,000 sq meter site and the facility will include an innovation center and a fuel cell system plant
- HTWO Guangzhou fuel cell plant annual production target is set at 6,500 units
- The production capacity will gradually expand in line with Chinese market conditions & policies
Hyundai’s roadmap
It was in 2018 that Hyundai Motor Group under its ‘Fuel Cell Vision 2030’ announced its plan to supply 700,000 hydrogen fuel cell systems annually by 2030. And thanks to its strategic partnerships with logistics, energy, and hydrogen companies globally, Hyundai has expanded its fuel cell system business. It has accelerated the development of the hydrogen fuel cell society and the foundation of the HTWO brand.
