Hyundai Bayon global unveil scheduled for March 2
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai will soon have a new SUV in its global lineup, the Bayon. The upcoming Hyundai SUV is scheduled to debut on March 2, at 10.00 am and is said to be positioned below the Kona SUV in the European market. Yes. it will first go on sale in Europe, i.e., in the first half of 2021.
The Hyundai Bayon shares its underpinning with the i20 hatch and is said to be in line with automaker's recent products like the Nexo, Venue, and next-gen Kona.
Hyundai has uploaded another teaser image of the upcoming Bayon SUV and therefore we know it'll get a vertically split headlamp design, LED daytime running lights, and LED turn signals. The side profile of the car features roof rails, beautiful dual-tone alloy wheels, wheel arches with black plastic cladding. The rear gets boomerang-shaped taillights that are vertically oriented like the headlights. From the spy images, it seems the Bayon's rear bumper will house turn indicators and reverse parking lights.
The 2021 Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by the same 1.2L and 1.0L turbo petrol units found under the i20 bonnet. The former 1.2-litre petrol mill generates a maximum power of 84 PS and a peak torque of 122 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo engine is offered in two tunes - 100PS/172 Nm and 120PS/172Nm. The transmission includes two options - a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT.
If in the future Hyundai decides to offer the Bayon N variant, it will most likely be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine making 204 PS and 275 Nm.
Once launched in Europe, the Hyundai Bayon will compete against the likes of Dacia Sandero Stepway, Ford EcoSport, and Fiat Panda City Cross.
