  • By 2030, Hyundai targets a 7% increase in its share in the electric car market by selling 1.87 million electric vehicles annually.

The company’s plan for this decade also comprises the development of a new platform called Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA). It will be an evolution of the ongoing E-GMP electric car architecture that underpins the Ioniq 5

The ongoing platform is flexible as it can be elongated or shortened as per different body types, motors, and batteries. A step further, the new form will also standardise the e-motor and battery pack and control software and hardware. This means a single platform will be able to accommodate sedans, SUVs, and other body types.

Bifurcating the list of 17 upcoming Hyundai electric vehicles, it includes 11 Hyundai-badged and 6 Genesis-badged models. Among the 11 Hyundai vehicles are 6 SUVs, 3 sedans, 1 LCV, and 1 new body type that might be a purpose-built vehicle (PBV). The automaker has planned to unveil Ioniq 6 in global markets later this year, which will be followed by the Ioniq 7 in 2024.

Just like Kia EVs, upcoming Hyundai electric vehicles will also have Level 3 autonomous driving tech called Highway Driving Pilot (HDP). The automaker will show the real deal with the new Genesis G90 sedan later this year.

Over the coming years, the Korean automaker will also focus on reducing the overall cost of EV development and production. It is in the process of developing a new manufacturing platform at the Hyundai Motor Global Innovation Centre in Singapore. A new facility in Indonesia is also on Hyundai’s bucket list to boost production for meeting the global demand for its EVs.
