Meet the Hyundai’s new three-row SUV, the Alcazar

KUALA LUMPUR: After a long teaser campaigning, Hyundai has finally pulled the wraps off its new three-row SUV in India, called the Alcazar. The new model is based on the very popular 5-seater Creta SUV available in the country and will be on offer in two versions - 6-seater and 7-seater. While the similarities between the two models are clearly visible,  it does get some unique bits that give it its own identity.

To add the third-row, Hyundai has worked on the Creta platform and come up with a longer wheelbase for the Alcazar, measuring 2,760 mm to be precise 150 mm more than the 5-seater version. Also new is an elongated rear overhang that will make the rearmost row comfortable to sit on.

Upfront, the Alcazar gets a chrome studded grille decked up with chrome accents; the grille is extended towards the headlamps and daytime running lights. The SUV features silver skid plates on the front bumper and boasts differently styled fog lights. It also gets a better stance due to larger 18-inch wheels on the sides and a conventional pair of LED tail lights connected by a chrome strip at the back.

Inside the Alcazar, you can find the identical layout as seen on the Creta; however, things differ on the sitting side. The 6-seater layout features captain seats and a floor-mounted armrest in the second row, while there would be a bench-type seat in the 7-seater configuration. For easy access to the third row, the middle seats get a one-touch tumble mechanism in both layouts. Talking about the third row, it gets a reclining functionality and a complete fold-down mechanism for better access to the luggage area.

In terms of creature comforts, the upcoming Alcazar specs sheet may include a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a Bose sound system,  a panoramic sunroof, BlueLink connected car tech, and a powered driver’s seat. 

When it comes to the powertrain, the two models are significantly different. The Alcazar will equip a more powerful 2.0-litre motor churning out a maximum output of  159 PS and a peak torque of 191 Nm of torque. However, it does retain the 115 PS 1.5-litre diesel mill from the Creta. Both units will be mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox.

The all-new Hyundai Alcazar is expected to hit the Indian showrooms next month at an expected price of Rs 11,00,000 (RM 60,899).
