Honda Malaysia recalls 36,000 cars over EPS gearbox issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia has issued a recall notice for three of its popular models -  Civic, Civic Type R, and CR-V. The recall programme aims to address a potential issue with the Electric Power Steering (EPS) gearbox.

    While explaining the issue, Honda Malaysia said the worm wheel located in the gearbox may swell and reduce the thickness of the grease film, which can cause abnormal steering noise or sticky steering.

    Owners of the affected models will be informed by Honda Malaysia via notification letters, including details of the product update. Upon receiving notification, the customers are requested to book an appointment with any Honda authorised dealership for vehicle inspection and repair (if required).

    Note, that the cost of inspection, repair or replacement will be borne by Honda Malaysia. The replacement stock will be available in stages starting from December 2024.

    The automaker apologises for any inconvenience caused to affected customers and assures that other current models in production and sale are not impacted by this product update.
