Honda Malaysia Becomes Number One Non-National Brand for 2015
Kuala Lumpur: It looks like 2015 has been a great year for the Honda Malaysia. The Japanese carmaker has recorded a mammoth sales record of 94,902 units for the year 2015. This has made Honda the number one foreign carmaker in the country in terms of sales unit.
Considering the market stats, Proton and Perodua rules the Malaysian car market with 50% share. Perodua is number one with around 34% share followed by Proton with a 16% share. While Honda Malaysia has now become the third in the country and first in the international brands currently operating in Malaysia. The brand announced in late November that it is close to achieving a record-breaking annual sales figure of 85,000 units. If we talk about the year to date figures of Honda Malaysia, it was already 74,920 units in October 2015. Also added the popularity of Honda City Malaysia, Honda HR-V Malaysia and Honda Jazz in Malaysia togetherly acting to make Honda the number one in non-national carmaker segment.
Honda Malaysia MD and CEO, Yoichiro Ueno said, “The year 2015 turned out to be an outstanding and memorable year for Honda Malaysia. We started off the year with a challenging sales target of 85,000 units. We ended the year surpassing our target by 12% despite the tough and highly competitive market situation in 2015. In the month of December, Honda Malaysia also recorded the highest monthly sales in history with 10,741 units of vehicles sold.”
It was also reported that Honda recorded a 22% increment in its overall sales for 2015. The Japanese carmaker sold over 77,485 units recorded in the year 2014 while in 2015 it set a new record with 94,902 units. Honda City remained the best-selling model for the company by contributing the largest share of 40% in the total sales while the versatile crossover HR-V stood up with 21% closely followed by the stylish and funky Honda Jazz with 18% share.
