Honda Civic Type-R Limited Edition to reclaim its FWD crown
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda made headlines in February this year with the introduction of the Civic Type-R Limited Edition model. The car is said to be conditioned to reclaim its FWD record at the Nurburgring. Currently, Renault Megane R.S. Trophy holds this record with a lap time of 7:40:10 seconds. While there is still some time for Honda to make new records, it has started preparing at its very own Suzuka Circut.
Dressed in Sunlight Yellow, the Civic Type-R lapped the Suzuka in 2:23:993 seconds, thus crowing itself the fastest FWD production car around the circuit. What’s even better is that it was a second and a half quicker than Renault Megane R.S Trophy-R, the previous record holder. It seems like Honda has good chances to gain back the Nurburgring crown.
What powers the Civic Type-R Limited Edition?
The mechanical configurations under its hood remain the same as the standard Type-R model - a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine churning 320 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. This mill is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox with a limited-slip differential, and it sends power to the front wheels.
How it’s different from the standard version?
With the capability to achieve such great performance figures, there must be some additional tunings in the limited edition model compared to the standard version. The Type-R thus features
- Reworked steering for additional feedback
- Revised dampers
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres
Also, the car has shed some serious weight; it is around 47 kg lighter thanks to the lighter 20-inch BBS wheels and removal of a few items like the infotainment system, air-con system, rear heater ducts, and sound cancelling materials.
With all these revisions and improvements, we hope the Civic Type-R Limited Edition reclaim its lost crown at the Green Hall.
