Honda City: Key highlights
Hond City continues to be counted amongst the best options available in the segment. Currently, it has four variants starting from RM 73,836 and going all the way up to RM 92,172.
And all four of them share the same 1.5-litre petrol engine with the hybrid variant getting an extra electric motor for obvious reasons. Honda has recently launched the 2020 City in our neighbouring country Thailand and it is expected to reach our shores very soon. The new City will help Honda to continue to be among the leaders in the compact sedan segment and that we can tell by the details we know about it so far. Until we get the 2020 Honda City, here are the key highlights of the current model which is on sale.
Sporty and attractive looks
Even after all these years, we have to accept that the City is still one of the best-looking cars in its segment. Don’t you think so? It seems like back in the day when Honda’s designers were working on this car they had a vision of many years ahead and knew that this design is going to last until then. Brilliant.
The City flaunts its sporty front end that bears a pair of sleek LED headlights, Honda’s thick single-slat chrome grille, and sporty bumper. On the side, it has sporty alloy wheels and a subtle yet prominent character line on the doors. And moving to the rear, we’ve got the much-popular combination taillights.
Butter-smooth engine
Honda is known for putting very refined and quiet engines in its products and the City specs are no exception. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine is a breeze to operate. It runs very smooth and it’s so quiet and refined that sometimes you’d get confused whether it’s idling or not.
As we mentioned earlier, all four variants of the City share the same 1.5-litre engine. It is a 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 120 PS of max power and 145 Nm of peak torque. For the hybrid variant of the City, this engine is combined with an electric motor and the combined power and torque output that’s generated is 137 PS and 170 Nm respectively. People, however, are still sceptical about buying hybrid cars. Don’t you think so?
Interior space and comfort
When it comes to interior space and comfort, the City has set some high benchmarks. Thanks to its generous dimensions, the cabin is space is applaudable. There’s a good amount of legroom for the rear passengers. The seats are very well bolstered and provide good comfort and support. Perhaps, the under-thigh support of the City is the best in its class.
Talking about comfort, Honda has also added rear AC vents for the enhanced comfort of the rear passengers. Honda has also kept the NVH levels inside the cabin very much controlled so that you stay kind of cut off from the unwanted external noises which could get you tired during a long journey.
Ride quality
The suspension setup in the City is MacPherson Strut at the front and Torsion Beam at the rear. It has been tuned to provide a plush and comfortable ride quality. Honda City soaks up bumps, potholes, and certain undulations quite well. Although it isn’t meant for outright performance and cornering, the City could still put up a small smile on your face when pushed.
So these were the key highlights of the Honda City which help the car to continue its fight in its segment. And soon there’s going to be an updated fifth-generation 2020 model that’s expected to not only take forward the current model’s standards but also set new benchmarks. We will be covering all the details about the 2020 Honda City, so keep checking Zigwheels Malaysia.
