Honda BR-V: Features explained
Honda has struck gold with the BR-V. The Mobilio MPV-based SUV has taken the middle path. One that neither qualifies them as MPVs inspite of the styling or the other wherein they aren’t looked upon as MPVs. It has worked for Honda and the 40,000+ customers too are happy about the vehicle they bought. What makes the Honda BR-V so popular. For starters, there is the design, the space that Honda is famous for and of course the engine. There are also safety bits which nowadays have become the regime for car buyers. No safety features, not buying the car. Move on to the competition. So, let’s have a look at the features of the Honda BR-V.
Honda BR-V Price and warranty
We normally do this section at the last. However, the eye-catching bit here is that the Honda BR-V is the third most affordable model in the company’s lineup. It starts from RM 78,516. Only the Jazz and City are more affordable than it. There are only two trims - 1.5 E and 1.5 V. The latter is priced at RM 84,591. As far as warranty goes, it is for five years and unlimited mileage. That’s a deal which most of the companies don’t offer. To top it all, Honda also offers free labour for the first three services.
Safety
The ASEAN NCAP has accorded the Honda BR-V five stars for safety, the highest it can give out. The car comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist and a reverse camera. The GCON + ACE construction of the vehicle ensures that the entire body shell receives the G-forces from a collision evenly. This ensures that lesser energy is transferred to the occupants, thereby minimising damage. The majority of the safety features mentioned here are standard and that’s a good thing. Reverse parking sensors are standard and so are ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Engine specifications
The Honda BR-V engine is a 1.5-litre unit that is also in use with the Jazz, City as well as HR-V. This motor is a rev happy unit like all the Honda units and makes its power at the peak. The 145 Nm of torque and the 120 PS of power that this one makes is delivered at a lofty 6,600 rpm. Honda gives only the option of a CVT with the BR-V. The claimed mileage from the BR-V is 17.59 kmpl. This figure stands well with this engine even for other Honda vehicles that use it.
Equipment on offer
The Honda BR-V boasts 16-inch alloys, projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, side mirrors with turning lights and chrome door handles on the outside. On the inside, there is also the smart entry with push-button start, assistant seatback pocket, rear AC, electrical boot lock, steering mounted audio controls, assistant vanity mirror, auto AC, leather upholstery and gear knob. There is also a 6.1-inch touchscreen unit that has handsfree telephony, Bluetooth, USB port, audio jack, four speakers and HDMI port.
Utility features
The Honda BR-V, just like other Hondas gets a lot of cup holders, door pockets on all four doors, bottle holders and a couple of USB charging ports. The boot space of 223 litres may seem hatchback-like. However, tumble the third row of seats and you get 539 litres of space, more than what your average sedan will provide for. If you count the bottle holders in the cabin, the numbers come to seven. Which is like having a bottle of water for each occupant.
