Here’s how McLaren has celebrated Queen’s birthday

KUALA LUMPUR: British supercar manufacturer McLaren had big plans for the monarch’s 70th birthday. The automaker developed a one-off Artura supercar commemorating Queen Elizabeth's special day.

    • The silver jubilee Artura is developed by McLaren’s in-house bespoke division, called McLaren Special Operations (MSO)
    • The car is covered in a new, specially created paint job called ‘Platinum Jubilee.’ It includes the perfect combination of metallic pigments that were analyzed in different lighting conditions for the ideal outcome by AkzoNobel, MSO, and the automaker’s advanced coating partner
    • A commemorative ‘Elizabeth II’ badge is placed on the car’s nose to announce its special purpose. MSO developers took eight days to refine and add finishing touches to it
    • A special set of bespoke tools and presses were used to mold the ‘Elizabeth II’ badge

    On creating the unique paint for the one-off Artura, MSO’s managing director, Ansar Ali, said, “It has been an honour for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year.” He added that this special paint would be available for customers and act as a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone.

    Apart from the Queen, McLaren has something special for the Malaysian market. Earlier today, McLaren Kuala Lumpur launched the brand’s first series-production hybrid supercar, the Artura, in the country.

    Priced at RM 1,050,000, the Malaysian-spec McLaren Artura is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine assisted by a 94 bhp e-motor. The total output rests at 680 PS and 720 Nm of torque.
