Speaking of this particular 2 Series Coupe, it is surely difficult to miss its striking artwork that's been created by two of the factory's associates, Luis Esquivel and David Fernandes. The paint job we see was no less than a challenge for the team given the car's curves and 3D shapes which in turn required five coats of some hues.
Figuratively speaking, a total of eight shades were used, 2.5-litre of clear coating and 6.1-litre of automotive paint. Wait, there's more to the efforts the team took to create this art car. For instance,
- The paint application was completely manual and was done at Plant Training Centre's paint booth
- A dry time of 30 minutes was observed in between each coat
- In order to maintain paint quality, the team strictly controlled the paint booth's humidity, air purity, and temperature
As for the time spent on creating this unofficial 2 Series Coupe art car, the colour application took three weeks, clear coat application two additional weeks, and lastly two more for working on finishing and polishing.
Coming to the shades used in this art car, well BMW says that the hues represent the German and Mexican flags. For instance, at the front one can clearly see the two countries' flags, reflecting their power in terms of perfection, engineering, and design. The colour orange is also part of the pallet and it symbolizes the marigold flower, common in the altars of the Mexican Day of the Dead. As for the human silhouettes, they symbolize the people working at the BMW San Luis Potosi plant.
The San Luis Potosi plant is the latest addition to BMW’s global production network. It has been designed in a way to adapt the production of several models. Only after two years of being in operation, it expanded its operations to the manufacturing of PHEVs. Since 2019, this plant has built 170k BMW 3 Series, representing 3 percent of the automaker's global production.
So, what do you think of the paint job? Good/bad/can’t decide? Let us know in the comments.
