Groupe PSA's new eVMP platform - Check out full details
KUALA LUMPUR: The electric vehicle segment is the one most carmakers are concentrating on these days. After crossovers, EVs are the next big domain where most R&D is taking place. Speaking of which, the Groupe PSA has introduced a new Electric Vehicle Modular Platform or eVMP that will support all its future models.
As per the current information, the eVMP platform will serve the brand's upcoming C-and D-segment EVs. Also, the company plans to introduce EVs under this platform from 2023 onwards. As for the specifics, the PSA says that different EVs will make their way to different markets.
Nicolas Morel, Groupe PSA's Research and Development Director, said, "This global platform will make it possible to offer a range of vehicles that are perfectly respectful of the environment, meeting the changing expectations of our customers and guaranteeing driving pleasure and safety on board, values that are the basis of the Group's reputation today."
Key highlights of PSA's new eVMP platform -
- This platform will utilise the entire subfloor section of the EV for the battery
- The new PSA platform is compatible with battery packs ranging between 60 kWh to 100 kWh
- The battery storage will be maximised within the wheelbase via accommodation of 50 kWh per meter in the subfloor section
- Depending on the vehicle, the EVs with this platform will offer an all-electric range of 400 km to 650 km
- The eVMP platform will be capable of hybridisation; it will widen the scope of the EV
The capability of the PSA's new platform is to be credited to the optimisation of the industrial cost and R&D. This has been done by using existing high-performance battery packs and sub-assemblies. Besides, maximum synergy was obtained within the company's plant resources to limit the investment. The platform's electric components were made in-house - they were either developed by Groupe PSA or along with its e-motors or ACC joint venture.
