Get ready to welcome a Hummer that can park sideways!
KUALA LUMPUR: Remember the gas guzzler GMC Hummer truck on which plugs were pulled in the late 2000s due to its failure to meet emission norms. Well, now GM is ready with an all-electric Hummer that is set to arrive coming October 20th. We are pretty excited, as the numerous teasers revealing its astonishing capabilities. The latest one being the presence of something called a Crab mode.
Yes, you read it right, Crab. Like a crab, the Hummer will be able to move sideways. On engaging in this mode, the wheels will lock in one direction (based on the driver's input), and the truck will slowly move sideways. Isn't it just amazing? This mode could come in handy while driving on tricky terrains or in need of parallel parking.
In addition to the Crab mode, the upcoming Hummer EV will also have other driver assistance features like cameras, radars, and sensors. It'll also come with something called 'super cruiser' though we don't have much info, it seems like a very promising addition.
We also urge you not to underestimate the Hummer for its all-electric powertrain because it's one lethal machine. The electric unit can pump out a maximum power of 1000 PS and a peak torque of 15592 Nm. With such massive capacity in hand, the Hummer EV is more potent than a Lamborghini. Don't believe us, well it can do a 100 kmph touchdown in less than 3 seconds.
The upcoming Hummer is rumoured to benefit from GM's Ultrium batteries with capacity ranging between 50kWh-200kWh. The latter has claimed a driving range of 644 km. Further, these batteries support Level 2 and DC fast charging.
The GMC Hummer EV will be manufactured at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant starting 2021 with its launch in 2022. Once out there, the Hummer will have Tesla Cybertruck as its major rival, therefore expect its price to lie on the prime side of the spectrum, somewhere close to $ 39,000.
