Get ready for Audi’s electric flagship car, the A9 E-Tron

KUALA LUMPUR: The entire VW Group, including Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Skoda, VW, Lamborghini, and Seat, is set to launch as many as 75 EVs and 60 PHEVs by 2029. And Audi seems to be the one most active in achieving the target number. As the company recently revealed the Q4 Sportback E-Tron and additionally came across the spy shots of the Audi E-Tron GT and Q4 E-Tron. Audi has also announced its plan to launch 20 electric cars and 10 PHEVs by 2024.

Taking a step closer to its goal, we heard that Audi is working on “a highly efficient electric car that is scheduled to be on the road as early as 2024”. Called the Audi A9 E-Tron, the car is said to rival the likes of new Jaguar XJ and upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS. The A9 E-Tron is based on the Aicon project displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show.

Artemis develops the A9 E-Tron EV. It is a dedicated team formed by Audi that’s there to reclaim the automaker’s reputation in technical leadership. The team will work alongside regular development departments, software experts, and engineers to “quickly and unbureaucratically create technologies for electric and highly automated driving.” This might mean the future EVs from Porsche and VW to borrow some technologies seen in the A9 E-Tron.

Codenamed E6, the project is in the early stages of development and is expected to be a luxurious sedan, similar to the Audi A7. The automaker is believed to begin prototype testing on the public rads in about two years.

The Audi A9 E-Tron will be a feature-packed car with all the Audi’s latest development in the EV powertrain department. Here are a few techs we hope to see - 5G connectivity, augmented reality, Car-to-X features, over the air upgrades, efficient electric motors, and new batteries.

With cars like the upcoming A9 E-Tron, Audi is trying to stay vital in the changing automotive landscape that includes biggies like Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, and electric car start-ups from China.
