Geneva International Motor Show returning in 2022, dates announced
KUALA LUMPUR: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of several auto shows around the world in 2020 and 2021. One such event is the highly prestigious Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) whose 2020 season was called off at the last minute, followed by the cancellation of the 2021 season. But, finally here’s some good news: Europe's biggest motoring event is set to make a comeback in 2022.
The organisers of the show have revealed that the 91st edition is scheduled to be held from February 19-27, 2022. They also invite the exhibitors to register for their attendance at the event, which will take place at its usual venue i.e. the Palexpo centre.
The CEO of GIMS, Sandro Mesquita announced: "With the dispatch of the tender packages, we are now officially starting the organisation of GIMS 2022. My team and I can hardly wait to present our concept to the exhibitors and subsequently to the public. We really hope that the health situation and the corresponding policy regulations regarding Covid 19 will allow us to bring it to life."
In the previous years, the show has usually been organised in the first days of March but it seems like anti-pandemic factors have resulted in earlier dates for the upcoming one. The interested folks can register until mid-July for the event that will be “substantially different from the past.” However, regarding the changes, organizers did not reveal much at this time as they admit that everything depends on the conditions.
The Geneva International Motor Show is considered the largest public event in Switzerland and has an economic impact of $210 million a year, according to the organizers. The non-occurrence of the 2020 season had a significant financial impact on the foundation, which had requested support from the federal council for losses estimated to be up to 11 million Swiss Francs, after an earlier loan of 16.8 million Swiss Francs.
Well, now things seem to be on track which brought much-needed positivity for not only the show’s organizers but also for folks in the auto industry.
