Genesis GV60 electric SUV debuts as brand’s first dedicated EV
KUALA LUMPUR: Genesis has finally taken its first move towards electrification by unveiling the first dedicated electric vehicle, the GV60. It underpins the company’s EV platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), on which the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are also based. While the automaker did not reveal the powertrain specifications of the luxury SUV yet, we have design and tech details to discuss.
With a sleek silhouette, the GV60 features a unique crest-shaped grille and Two-Line Quad Lamp headlights on the front. The former is positioned downward to increase the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage batteries in the underbody. There is also a new wing emblem on the grille, whose thickness is 80% less than the previous one.
Further, Genesis has brought on board a ‘Clamshell Hood’ for the first time; it is a single panel that combines the hood and fenders for a sleek appearance. Other exterior highlights include electric door handles (pop up when you approach the car), Two Line rear combination lamps, a fixed rear wing spoiler, and a coupe-shaped roof.
Moving to the Genesis GV60 interior, it is based on ‘Beauty of White Space’ ethos and has some amazingly unique features. One of them is Crystal Sphere, a smart sphere-shaped Shift By Wire system which is located on the floating console. It illuminates when the vehicle is turned off and rotates and reveals the gear controls when the driver turns on the car.
The Genesis new EV also has a wide-screen integrated indicator that connects with the instrument cluster and AVNT (audio, video, navigation, telecommunication). For infotainment shortcuts, there are touch-capacitive climate controls and hard buttons on a capsule-shaped pod located below the touchscreen.
While there is no information on the Genesis GV60 price at the moment, it is expected to hit the US showrooms next year.
