Geely Xingyue L SUV revealed in China
KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese automaker Geely teased its latest high-end flagship SUV called Xingyue L last month, which is now unveiled at the 2021 Auto Shanghai. The new model is the third Geely car based on its Compact Modular Architecture (CMA); which has been co-developed with Volvo.
While presenting the new Xingyue L to the world, the Vice President of Geely Design Shanghai, Guy Burgoyne, commented, “In 2019, we unveiled a preface of what’s to come, a new design language and a slingshot from our Expanding Cosmos philosophy. In 2020, with the new design language and the passion for realizing an idea into reality, we conceived a super premium and refined SUV concept. Today, this super premium concept has become the Xingyue L”.
On the exterior, the attractive five-seater SUV features a macho yet classy design. Upfront, there is an expanding cosmos grille with vertical bars, slim headlights with 126 controllable LEDs, a bulky bumper, and massive air intakes. Out back, a large tail light cluster spanning the SUV’s width and an equally bulky bumper round off its beefy looks. At the sides, the SUV gets large 20-inch wheels and sharp character lines running from the headlights to the tail lights.
Inside, the luxurious Geely Xingyue L is fitted with a gigantic one-metre touchscreen display as the centre of attraction, which is actually two 1920×720 screens clubbed in a single panel. The infotainment system also supports over-the-air updates. Added to the interior luxury are premium materials, blue/jade upholstery, and copper trimmings.
Powering this Chinese SUV is a 2.0-litre inline-4 turbo petrol engine that is also co-developed with Volvo. There are two different tunings of this engine; the lower tune produces a maximum power of 215 hp and a peak torque of 325 Nm, while the higher version delivers 238 hp and 380 Nm. On the transmission front, the former is paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels, where the latter gets an Aisin-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission for powering all the four wheels. The higher configured Xingyue L can run from standstill to 100 kph in 7.7 seconds.
Geely aims to launch the Xingyue L in China in the coming weeks with a plan to go global shortly.
