Geely KX11 SUV global debut may happen in April
KUALA LUMPUR: Back in December, the Chinese automaker Geely teased an upcoming crossover based on the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that underpins the Volvo XC40 and two ongoing Geely models - Xing Yue and Xing Rui. The upcoming model is said to be a three-row SUV, which is internally codenamed as the KX11. The automaker recently revealed its full pictures without disclosing any details.
The Geely KX11 latest images showcase a very Volvo-looking exterior design featuring a radiator grille, with vertical bars, which is flanked by elongated headlights with LED daytime running lights and integrated LED turn signals. Tailored for the European market, the seven-seater SUV has streamlined bodywork, a wide greenhouse, and a gently sloping roof. At the back, there is an LED light bar that stretches across the tailgate of the SUV.
According to the previous reports, the mid-size SUV shares its dimensions with the Geely Hao Yue SUV, which measures 4,835 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2800 mm.
Geely has yet to unveil the KX11’s cabin, however, spy shots suggest that the SUV will have a modern-looking sophisticated interior.
Powering the upcoming KX11 will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot engine borrowed from the Geely Xing Yue. The engine is based on Volvo Car technology that meets all the stringent emissions standards of the world. Paired with an 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission, the engine churns out a maximum power of 235 hp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Talking about the performance, the setup allows the Xing Yue to hit the 100 kmph mark in just 6.8 seconds. The same can be expected for the KX11.
Besides this, the Chinese carmaker is also thinking about a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV that is likely to integrate a 1.5-litre three-pot engine and an e-motor for a combined system output of 258 hp and 415 Nm.
Set to enter production in the third quarter of 2021, the Geely KX11 is likely to make an official debut at the upcoming Auto Shanghai show in April.
