Geely Icon makes the first appearance
KUALA LUMPUR: Geely has finally unwrapped the Icon, the B-segment SUV, in Beijing at a design seminar. The car is based on the Concept Icon, which was introduced at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Last month, the first images of the production version of the car were released.
Geely Icon is the second SUV from the brand, which is based on the company’s BMA (B-Segment Modular Architecture) platform. The first Geely car based on this platform is Binyue, which was launched in the home market just one year ago. The platform is co-developed with Volvo and it is flexible and scalable to incorporate different applications. Reportedly, Geely Icon specs tell it measures 4,350 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 2,640 mm in terms of wheelbase.
Exterior wise, the front end of the car features a cosmos grille, which expands through the entire width. It also features infinity loop headlights, which are vertically oriented. This infinity loop pattern is also found on the rear lamps, which are rectangular.
Inside the car, Geely Icon gets a multi-layered dashboard. There are also two 10.25-inch big-screen displays, among which one is for the infotainment panel and another for the instruments. The displays are also connected with the GKUI Geely Smart Ecosystem, by which it can connect to the rest of the world. Apart from these, there are also a tall centre console and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class style grab handle.
As for now, regarding the powertrains, one engine is confirmed. It is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which can churn out a maximum power of 174 hp and a peak torque of 255 Nm. The engine is mated to a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission.
Apart from these, there is no information available on its price and availability.
