GAC making big moves in Malaysia ahead of upcoming SUV launches

KUALA LUMPUR: With an aim to establish its foothold in the Malaysian automotive market, GAC Motor is set to introduce three new SUV models this year. Ahead of the highly anticipated SUV launches, the Chinese automaker has been diligently enhancing its distribution network in the country to ensure seamless availability and accessibility of its vehicles to a wider audience.

    Covering key areas including Cyberjaya, Alor Setar, Butterworth, Seremban, Kuantan, Sungai Petani, Setia Alam, Johor Bahru, and Balakong, the nine newly appointed dealerships by WTC Automotif bring GAC Motor's presence closer to customers across Peninsular Malaysia.

    Among the Upcoming GAC cars are - GS3 Emzoom, Emkoo, and Aion Y Plus. 

    GAC GS3 Emzoom

    The GS3 Emzoom is the next-gen GS3, which is vastly different from it both in terms of design and mechanicals. It will be available in two variants Exclusive and Premium-R, both powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-pot engine, producing 177 PS at 5500 rpm and 270 Nm between 1400-4500 rpm. The GS3 Emzoom is likely to be priced below RM 130,000.

    GAC Emkoo

    The GAC Emkoo is a C-segment SUV based on the brand’s Global Platform Modular Architecture. It has an ultramodern design and features advanced creature comforts. In terms of mechanical setup, it is expected to come equipped with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged mill as the GS3 Emzoom. GAC Malaysia is likely to launch the Emkoo in the second half of 2024.

    GAC Aion Y Plus

    The Aion Y Plus is an electric SUV that underpins the automaker’s Aion Electric EV Platform. It will come powered by an in-house 63.2 kWh ‘Magazine’ lithium-ion phosphate battery, offering a cruising range of 430 km on the WLTP cycle. In terms of design, the EV appears more like an MPV rather than an SUV. It features fully reclinable front seats allowing passengers to convert the cabin into a double bed. The EV will make its way to the local market in the first half of 2024.
