GAC GS3 EMZOOM launches in Malaysia: 2 variants, 1.5-litre 177PS/270Nm,DCT, from RM119k

KUALA LUMPUR:  WTC Automotif (WTCA), under the umbrella of Warisan TC Holdings has launched the 2024 GAC GS3 Emzoom, marking a significant evolution from its predecessor introduced locally in 2021.

This next-generation model is a testament to GAC’s commitment to innovation and superior engineering, and adds more competition in the tightly contested B-segment SUV market. 

Fully imported (CBU), the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) is available in two trims: the GS3 EMZOOM Exclusive and the GS3 EMZOOM Premium R. The official pricing for these models are:

Exclusive : RM118,900

Premium R: RM128,900

The primary distinction between the two variants is that the GS3 EMZOOM Premium R includes the distinctive R Style Sport Package and R-Style Sport Exhaust with valve control, which infuse the vehicle with a dynamic and bold aesthetic.

On the inside, the Premium R elevates comfort and convenience with exclusive features such as automatic climate control, a six-way power adjustable driver's seat, multi-color ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charger, a hands-free power tailgate, Fusion Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA), and a panoramic sunroof.

To celebrate its official launch, WTCA is offering a special launch package for the first 2000 customers who register early. This package includes:

• Three complimentary scheduled service maintenances, covering labor, parts, and lubricants.
• Exclusive 7-Year/180,000km Engine & Powertrain Warranty for the first registered owner, in addition to the standard 5-year/150,000km warranty.

• Early birds will also receive a free GAC Smart Watch Key, which functions like a regular car key but includes additional smart watch connectivity features.

Enhanced Dimensions on a New Platform

The 2024 GAC GS3 is built on the company’s latest GPMA platform, offering more spacious dimensions than its previous iteration. It measures 4,410 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

This represents an increase of 52 mm in length, 25 mm in width, and an extended wheelbase by 90 mm over the current model, enhancing both the vehicle's stability and interior space. The boot capacity starts at 341 liters, expanding up to a substantial 1,271 liters, providing ample space for all kinds of cargo.

Futuristic Exterior Design

The GS3 Emzoom showcases a sci-fi-inspired aesthetic with its geometric shapes and bold textures. The front fascia is dominated by an iconic h-shape, featuring a flying wing grille flanked by laser eye LED headlights.

The vehicle’s profile is elevated by electric hidden door handles and stylish 19-inch wheels. At the rear, the "Light Dart" tail lights with 66 embedded LED bulbs create a striking 3D effect, further enhancing the SUV's modern and distinctive look.

State-of-the-Art Interior Features

Inside, the GAC GS3 Emzoom embraces a modern and minimalist interior design that caters to contemporary tastes. It features a horizontal layout centered around a flat-bottom steering wheel and a crystal shift gear knob. High-tech amenities enhance the driving experience:

• Digital speedometer
• Wireless charging tray for smartphones
• Smartphone mirroring connectivity
• Power-adjustable front seats

Powerful and Efficient Performance

Under the hood, the new GS3 Emzoom is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 177 PS at 5500 rpm and 270 Nm of torque between 1400-4500 rpm.

This represents a significant increase in power and torque compared to the outgoing model. Paired with a seven-speed wet DCT, the vehicle promises brisk acceleration, achieving zero to 100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds.

GAC also claims that their SUV boasts an efficient fuel consumption rate of 5.9 liters per 100km (NEDC cycle). Additionally, it offers the convenience of a Remote Engine Start feature, allowing for vehicle pre-conditioning from a distance.

Added safety

The GAC GS3 EMZOOM ensures passenger safety through an extensive array of active and passive safety features, along with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that support Level 2 autonomous driving.

Standard across all models are front and side airbags, front and rear disc brakes, hill hold control, electronic stability program (ESP), and blind spot vision.

The vehicle's comprehensive ADAS package includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Intelligent Speed Limit Control (ISLC).

Additionally, the GS3 EMZOOM Premium R variant offers High Beam Assist (HMA) and Fusion Automatic Parking Assist.

Competitive Pricing and availability

Although the GAC GS3 Emzoom carries a premium price tag due to its fully imported status, it remains competitively priced compared to key competitors such as the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V.

For those interested in a more affordable option, the locally assembled (CKD) version of the GS3 Emzoom is on the horizon. Production is set to start in April 2024 at Tan Chong Motor’s Kuala Lumpur Assembly plant, with deliveries anticipated by mid-year. This makes the GS3 Emzoom a highly awaited entrant in Malaysia’s rapidly growing SUV market.
