Fully-electric Volvo EX30 introduced; here’s all you need to know

Volvo has finally revealed its new fully-electric EX30 SUV globally in Milan, Italy. Thus, expanding the brand’s all-electric offering to four models. In the rapidly growing electric vehicle market, the EX30 will surely help the brand capture a good share of this fast-growing market.

Interestingly, the all-new EX30 packs some highlights, for instance apart from being one of the brand’s safest cars, it is designed to have the smallest CO2 footprint a Volvo car has ever offered and packs several cutting-edge tech and features. Not to forget its attractive Scandinavian design that will turn several heads on the road.

In Volvo’s words, “The fully electric EX30 might be our smallest SUV, but it’s a big deal for our customers and a big deal for us as a company,” said Jim Rowan, our chief executive. “We like to say the EX30 is small yet mighty, because it delivers on everything you’d want from a Volvo but in a smaller package. Like any Volvo, it’s an outstanding product that is safe and designed around people and their needs.”

The EX30 showcases a long wheelbase, large wheels along with equal overhangs which bring balance and refinement to the car’s exterior. Compared to the XC40, the new SUV is slightly smaller and has chassis turned to offer the best possible driving experience. All of this is made possible via its low center of gravity along with relatively low and evenly distributed weight.

Design

The EX30 showcases a distinctly electric and confident face that packs several stylish and functional elements. Also, one might find many similarities with the EX30, though on a smaller scale.

At the front, the new Volvo SUV features LED headlights with the brand’s signature ‘Thor’s hammer’ daytime running lights (DRL).

The side profile skips the flushed door handles with conventional ones. Also, Volvo's latest EV SUV sports EX30-like side-view mirrors instead of side-view cameras.

The rest of the car, the EX30’s rear again takes inspiration from the EX90 and features a vertical tail light on the windscreen along with a separate tail light cluster with a clamp-like design.

Cabin

The customers are given a choice of four design ‘rooms’, namely Indigo, Breeze, Pine, and Mist.

Each comes with its own expression and takes a sustainable approach. For instance, one room embraces the timeless approach of denim and incorporates denim waste products.
Other materials used inside are - recycled plastic waste, flex, and wool blend with 70% recycled polyester.

As for upholstery, the EX30 offers a choice of upholstery in Nordico, a progressive and technically advanced material. It is created from textiles made from recyclables such as PET bottles and bio-attributed material from forests in Sweden and Finland.

Comfort & connectivity

Like the exterior, the EX30’s interior showcases a futuristic front and packs several high-end features. Some of them being -

For added convenience, users can set amperage, max charging level, and charging start time via the car’s central display and dedicated application.

Orders for the all-new Volvo EX30 can be dropped by customers in Europe and other select markets, including the United States. For the rest of the world, order books will open up slightly later.
