Ford Ranger twin Volkswagen Amarok teased, debut next year
KUALA LUMPUR: Last month, Ford unveiled the all-new Ranger pickup truck based on an upgraded T6 body-on-frame architecture. And now here we can see the designed sketches of the upcoming Volkswagen Amarok that is known to be the twin model of the new Ranger. The two trucks will share the same underpinnings and are also expected to have the same powertrain choices, however, aesthetic differences will make them look substantially different.

Are the upcoming VW Amarok and the new Ford Ranger the same?

The next-generation Volkswagen Amarok will enter the production lines next year in South Africa and Argentina and is expected to go on sale in the global markets from late next year. While explaining the Volkswagen Amarok design, VW Commercial Vehicles chief designer, Albert-Johann Kirzinger said “we’ve given the strength and power of the new Amarok an unambiguous expression – with clear Volkswagen DNA, inside and out. The striking front, and above all the defining X design clearly distinguish the new Amarok and emphasise its claim to be leading the way.”
The latest exterior sketch of the Amarok looks the same as the previous teaser (pictured above) that the German automaker released last year. We can see an LED light bar at the front that connects the LED headlights. There are prominent bonnet lines, flared fenders, and bulging wheel arches offering a rugged appeal. The rear fascia of the truck has not yet been revealed by the automaker.
With the interior sketch, we can figure out that the upcoming Volkswagen pickup will feature a big digital instrument cluster, a portrait-style infotainment touchscreen display (just like the one available on the updated Ford Ranger), a new steering wheel with touch controls, an electronic parking brake, a toggle-style electronic gear knob, Ranger-like central AC vents, and a powered sunroof.
If the new Amarok borrows the engine configurations from the Ranger, the options would include turbocharged inline-4 and V6 choices, including diesel trims in some markets. The engines could be paired with 6- or 7-speed manual units as standard along with a choice of 10-speed automatic.
