Ford Ranger T6 vs Toyota Hilux: Battle of the Pickups
Kuala Lumpur: A pickup truck is a vehicle having an enclosed cab and an open cargo area. Earlier it was used just for lifestyle reasons but nowadays it is being used like a passenger car as well. In Malaysia, this segment has started to grow in past couple of years. Malaysian customers have now started to accept the practical flexibility of pickups as it manages to transport goods and passengers seamlessly.
While Toyota Hilux is already making the rounds in Malaysia, Ford Ranger T6 Facelift was launched today only. Either you are a Hilux man or a Ranger man, no other compact pickup truck boasts of such features which these two inherit. The much-hyped battle of these giants is shaping up to be something of a real fight. Dimension wise there is not much difference, but Ford Ranger T6 measures a bit longer and wider than Hilux. Talking about the engine, Toyota Hilux is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine which churns out a maximum power of 160 hp at 3400 rpm along with a peak torque of 343 Nm at 1400-3200 rpm. Further, it is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, Ford Ranger T6 is integrated with a 3.2-litre diesel engine which delivers a maximum power of 200 hp at 3000 rpm along with a commanding torque of 470 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm. Further, it is paired with a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. Clearly, Ford Ranger T6 comes out as a clear winner with a more powerful engine and better transmission. Going by the exterior, both the pickups are big and muscular but the Ford Ranger T6 seems to be slightly more modern looking. Inside the cab, Ranger T6 feels more like a car than the Hilux does. The safety features installed in these pickups compete head to head, so you don't get to pin point any less efficient car in terms of safety. Though Toyota Hilux has taken a back seat in many aspects, but that doesn't prove it to be a weak competitor.
