Ford Ranger smaller version to be called Maverick
KUALA LUMPUR: Maverick is coming back! But not as the compact car we know from the 70s, sold in the US market. The said nameplate is expected to be given to Ford Ranger’s smaller sibling in the states. Some might know it as the Ford version of the Nissan Patrol Y60 sold in Australia from 1988 and 1994.
The image you see here was released by a YouTube channel called The Fast Lane Truck. It claims that this tailgate image reveals the name Maverick and above it is the space for Ford’s blue oval badge.
Ford Australia gave no confirmation, neither it commented on the legitimacy of the report nor confirmed the arrival of a small pickup anytime soon. The Ford Maverick pickup that was earlier speculated to be named Ranchero or Courier is expected to share the same underpinnings as the Ford Escape SUV and Ford Focus small car. The said platform, code-named ‘C2’, reportedly forms the basis of the recently-leaked Ford Bronco Sport.
As mentioned earlier, the Ford Maverick nameplate was last seen in Australia in the form of the rebadged Nissan Patrol Y60 that the company sold from 1988 to 1994. And it was also used on Maverick compact car sold in the United States from 1969 to 1979.
