Ford Mustang R-Spec limited edition goes official in Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford has added another iconic Mustang muscle car, namely R-Spec limited edition in Australia. As the name suggests, the number of vehicles to be made is limited to 500 units. The car will hit the Australian shores in early 2020.

Ford’s CEO and President in Australia and New Zealand, Kay Hart said, “We have been working hard with Herrod Performance to deliver a supercharged Mustang to Australian customers. Now, working with Herrod Performance, we’ve been able to bring this special edition Mustang to Australian customers through our extensive dealership network, and with the peace-of-mind of five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranties backed by Ford and Herrod.”

The assembling process of Ford Mustang R-Spec will be done at the American multinational automaker’s one of the oldest factories at Broadmeadows. All the cars will get a unique number between 1 to 500.

Design-wise, Ford Mustang R-Spec gets Ford Performance’s new 19-inch alloys along with a revamped front fascia. The later includes a chin spoiler, a new front grille, and a lower intake. On the other hand, the decals get the black paint job. The rear wing along with a side skirt is entirely new.

On the mechanical department, the car gets a huge power bump thanks to the addition of the 2.65-litre supercharger with the standard 5.0-litre Coyote V8. However, the carmaker has not confirmed the official power output yet. In the US, the same Ford Performance supercharger kit provides a maximum power of 700 hp along with a peak torque of 830 Nm. The engine will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Furthermore, the Ford Mustang R-Spec’s supercharged engine is further assisted by a slew of features like Ford Performance springs (up to 20 mm flexible), Herrod Performance exhaust system, adjustable stabilizer bars, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and Magneride suspension.
