Ford files patent for new windshield-roof design
KUALA LUMPUR: The American automaker has filed a patent for a new windshield-roof combined design with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It is creative and raises more eyebrows for rigidity and safety than anything else.
As revealed on the Mach E Club, the new patent is about extending the windshield of the Ford Mustang to form the part of the roof (almost fully). This clearly cites to the rigidity concern. However, Ford has a solution, which is a pair of roof rails combined with two curved horizontal rails in the centre of the roof, everything between the rear window and windshield.
Although this solution looks strong on paper, we are not sure about how much it would be in reality. Nonetheless, the automaker would be making sure about the vehicle rigidity. We are not sure if the team at Ford has already done their homework or Ford is simply trademarking the possible solution.
The post on the forum, Mach E Club, is about four months old and the patent was first filed on May 14, 2018. It seems that the company has been working vigorously towards it from quite some time now.
Evidently, the design is a bit strange and we still remain unclear whether it would be a good idea to adopt such a plan in real-world conditions. Time will tell what Ford has in store for us. It would be a revolutionary step in the world of automobiles if Ford manages to pull this off settling all the safety-related worries.
