Ferrari’s first SUV to enter production this year
KUALA LUMPUR: The global automotive arena is loaded with amazing cars hailing from one segment or the other. One such segment is that of Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that is very much popular amongst the end-users.
Over the years, we have seen great SUVs from luxury and mainstream brands. However, it was the ultra-luxury plays that reminded the spectacle for the longest. It all changed in recent times with the introduction of Aston Martin DBX, Lamborghini Urus, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Ferrari, however, still remained absent from the scene until now.
According to Ferrai’s 2021 financial report, the brand’s first SUV, the Purosangue is all set to enter production this year with the first delivery scheduled for 2023. Great, right?
Any details? Not really, as Ferrari is yet to reveal the specs, however, in a 2008 interview with Top Gear, Sergio Marchionne, the late FCA boss said that the then-yet-to-be-names SUV should be called an ‘FUV’, i.e., a Ferrari Utility Vehicle.
He said, “It’s whatever Ferrari thinks a utility vehicle ought to look like. Look, by definition it’s going to drive like a Ferrari, it has to.”
FCA is now under the command of Michael Manley, who’s vision and direction is different from his predecessor.
Also, Purosangue’s financial case is clear for some time now with Ferrari hoping to build on a strong year wherein it sold 11,155 cars, 22.3 percent up compared to 2020. Going through the numbers, it’s the V8 supercars responsible for the rise with the production of V12’ s dropping by 16.1 percent.
Only time will tell, how will Purosangue’s entry change Ferrari’s sales landscape?
