Ferrari recalls 11 Malaysian vehicles over airbag issue
Kuala Lumpur: The Italian sports car giant Ferrari has recalled its vehicles over airbag issue and reportedly 11 Malaysian vehicles are affected by the same. In July earlier this year also the company issued a safety recall of around 2,600 cars globally because of a default in airbags on the driver's side, supplied by Japanese company Takata. Later it was called as an “improper airbag assembly” in the vehicles.

The recall affected various Ferrari models including the 458 Italia, 458 Spider,458 Speciale/Speciale A, California T, the FF, F12 Berlinetta and even the LaFerrari, made between December 19, 2014 to April 29, 2015.
Ferrari’s problem with assembling the airbags comes amid a roiling scandal over defective Takata airbags, which have been linked to eight deaths and more than 100 injuries around the world.
Recall over airbag is not a new issue as earlier also ten global automakers, including General Motors, Honda and Germany’s BMW, recalled over 34 million cars in the United States alone to replace the inflators.n July, Ferrari issued a safety recall for about 2,600 models globally over a possible on the driver’s side.

As per the reports from CarAdvice, Ferrari Australia had issued a recall for 58 cars designated for delivery in Australia over the issue, which involves airbags made by Takata Corp, the same manufacturer who caused the July mega recall of 2600 vehicles. This time Malaysia is also on the recall list though it involves a smaller number of cars.
Sources confirm that Ferrari Far East office has declared that 11 cars designated for delivery to Malaysia will be affected by the recall. Although, it will take less than one hour to replace the defective part and this will be done at no cost to the customers. There was no specific mention of models involved.

The issue is mainly because of a production defect in a component inside the airbags which were fitted to several cars built in 2015. The recall note from July stated that an improper airbag inflation is being reported because of an errand assembly. This was causing the airbag to inflate in a “rotated orientation,” which could result in injury or death if met with a collision.
