Euro 5 petrol gazetted to arrive in 2025, diesel in 2020
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia will be introduced to Euro 5 petrol in 2015 and diesel in 2020. The Malaysian government has recently gazetted the Euro 5 grade petrol and diesel along with the complete fuel specifications.
The official document released from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment states that, the Malaysian fuel stations will receive the Euro 5 petrol by September 1, 2025, which will b including the RON 95 and RON97 types.

Apart from lead and sulphur, other standards for Euro 5 petrol like the Oxygen content, Reid Vapour Pressure, olefins, benzene, aromatics and many others will be enforced to the petrol in various stages, throughout 2026 to 2027.

Just like the petrol, the availability of Euro 5 diesel all across the country has also been confirmed, which will be from September 1, 2020. According to the all new guidelines set by the ministry, the Euro 5 diesel should not contain sulphur levels of more than 10mg/kg after the fuel will be introduced in the country. Apart from the sulphur levels, the government will also introduce other reforms such as its density should be at 95% and distillation temperatures at 15 degrees Celsius.
At present, the Euro 5 diesel is available by Shell, Petronas and BHPetrol, the major players in fuel stations in the country. However, the availability of Euro 5 diesel it is not yet made mandatory by the government. The Euro 4 RON 97 petrol is available already across the county, however, the Euro 4 RON 95 petrol will be available only after October 1, 2018.
