KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, after years of review and consideration, the controversial law to formally ban the sales of new petrol and diesel cars has been passed. The law extends to all the EUs 27 nations and begins in 2035. Thus, aiming to fast-track its efforts to switch to electric vehicles and combat climate change.

As mentioned above, the law focuses on the speedy adoption of EVs with EUs parliament lead like Jan Huitema justifying the ruling by saying, "The operating costs of an electric vehicle are already lower than the operating costs of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine." He also added that it is crucial to bring customers more affordable electric vehicles.
Many carmakers in Europe now have announced an investment in electrification. For instance, Volkswagen last year announced its plan to produce only electric cars in Europe from 2033.
